UPTOWN — The building once home to Uptown s Holiday Club isn t much more than a pile of rubble as it makes way for a new apartment building that will pay homage to its terracotta design. Demolition began recently at the former nightlife destination alongside an adjacent apartment complex and the storefronts containing El Palmar restaurant and Roots Smoke Vapor Shop at the northwest corner of North Sheridan and West Irving Park Roads. On Sunday, little more than Holiday Club s facade and portions of the other buildings remained intact. The club shuttered on May 17 with plans for a future location still up in the air. The rat pack-themed club had been a neighborhood staple for 25 years, made iconic for its shimmery signage adorned and back-room dance floor. It was known for its ’80s and ’90s weekly dance parties and for housing one of the city’s last analog photo booths. Holiday Club s longtime Uptown home is slated for redevelopment.
